Color-octet effects in radiative Υ decays

Abstract: We investigate the effects of color-octet contributions to the radiative ⌼ decay within the Bodwin, Braaten, and Lepage nonrelativistic QCD ͑NRQCD͒ framework. We compute the short-distance coefficients at next-toleading order ͑NLO͒ in ␣ s for the most relevant color-octet intermediate states and consider photons coming both from the coupling to hard processes ͑''direct''͒ and by collinear emission from light quarks ͑''fragmentation''͒. An estimate for the nonperturbative matrix elements which enter in the fina… Show more

“…Combining this with the leading logarithm result for the color-octet contribution at the endoint [15,17], and the photon fragmentation results at low z [28,29], we can hope to obtain an accurate prediction for the photon spectrum over the full kinematic range. (i.e., they all have the same anomalous dimension).…”

“…However, since we are interested in the large z region, we will neglect them in the following. There may also be large coloroctet corrections to the rate in the endpoint region [15,17,29], which we will also neglect for the now. We also compare our result to the resummed result where the mixing has been turned off, using in place of the full resummed result in Eq.…”

“…The photon energy spectrum in the hard subprocess QQ[n] → γX of radiative decays has been calculated in next-to-leading order perturbative QCD for both the colour singlet mode [8] and the colour octet modes [9]. Another perturbative contribution may become important in the upper endpoint region (z = 2E γ /M H → 1) of the spectrum.…”
