Colour‐coded and Pulsed Doppler Sonography of the Canine Testis, Epididymis and Prostate Gland: Physiological and Pathological Findings

Abstract: Two-dimensional ultrasound was used in combination with colour-coded and pulsed Doppler sonography to study the blood flow of the testes and prostate gland in a total of 30 male dogs. After detection of the vessels by colour-coded Doppler sonography, the blood flow patterns were determined by pulsed Doppler sonography measuring and describing the systolic and diastolic peak velocity (SPV, DPV), the end-diastolic velocity, the time-averaged maximum velocity (TAMAX), the pulsatility and resistance index, as well… Show more

“…The capsular limit is not well defined. Systolic and diastolic peak velocity, the end-diastolic velocity, resistive index and pulsatility index values were increased in accordance with other published values [9]. Doppler examination shows increased blood flow within prostate with high fractional area index [2].…”

“…The dorsal penile artery supplies those body organs (penis) that should be targets for sex pheromones, whereas the arcuate artery is the vessel of a control organ-the kidney (Dzięcioł et al 2012b). To visualize the examined vessel, color coded ultrasonography was used (Gunzel-Apel et al 2001). For the evaluation of the results Pixel Flux ® software (Chameleon Software, Germany) dedicated for dynamic sonographic tissue perfusion measurement was used , Scholbach et al 2004, Wieczorek et.…”

“…The usefulness of the Doppler sonography for the examination of canine testes is described in several reports (5,11,12). However, Pozor and McDonnell (23), who examined stallions` testes with the pulsedwave gray-scale Doppler ultrasonography, found this method very helpful, despite much bigger size of the testes.…”
