Circular economy development is about a system level change towards enhanced sustainability and circularity covering both biological and technical cycles. This study aimed at exploring, identifying, analyzing and synthesizing the current state of and future outlook on CE development in the wood construction sector in Finland as perceived by various sectoral companies. This study focused on multiple themes related to the importance of the various aspects of a CE and associated approaches in this particular sector. This study applied a qualitative research approach, and a questionnaire survey was the specific method. The survey was sent to both architectural and construction sector companies. This study addressed a gap in research and contributes to the better understanding of the current state of and future outlook on CE development in the wood construction sector. The results indicate that the CE concept is mostly considered to be an important part of building design and construction. However, some respondents found that this concept is new to them. Interestingly, the cascading use of wood and the assessment and measurement of a CE were not at all familiar to many respondents. Particularly important CE aspects in the wood construction sector include, for example, sustainability and the long life cycles of products, components and materials; co-creation and cooperation covering the whole life cycle of construction and the whole supply chain; training and competence development; and design for a CE, sustainability and long life cycles. Many essential elements of a CE were in use, coming into use or in consideration by many of the sectoral companies.

Construction projects have significant impacts on the environment. They adversely affect many areas, such as energy consumption, global warming and resource depletion. Green buildings have been found to be the most effective way to reduce these impacts. As a developing country with limited resources, Jordan is giving too much prominence to sustainability in construction projects. However, moving forward with Green Building Projects (GBPs) is a great challenge. Most managers do not have much experience in managing these projects yet. They are not fully aware of the importance of project management factors which can significantly affect the delivery process of GBPs. Research addressing these factors has become a crucial need in the construction industry. The main objective of this study is to identify the major project management factors required to deliver GBPs successfully in Jordan. The questionnaire was distributed to determine the significance of nineteen project management factors and SPSS software was utilized to perform the data analysis. The results show that for GBPs in Jordan to be successfully delivered, there must be clear lines of communication during the design and planning stages. The study concludes with recommendations for improving GBP distribution in Jordan. A further detailed study is needed to investigate and improve communication channels in GBPs. The practical implications of this study are to help the stakeholders in the construction industry understand management activities in the green building industry in a better and more realistic way. In addition, identifying these factors will help control future projects and ensure correct decisions are made from the beginning of the project to maximize the project's success.

Circular economy (CE) is hinged upon resource optimisation as a more viable and sustainable approach against the extractivist linear economic model that has resulted in resource scarcity, affordability issues, and environmental degradation. Design plays a critical role as the foundation of the circular approach, however, limited studies have examined the inherent benefits of circular design (CD) adoption from the building design firms’ (BDFs) perspectives, more importantly, none exist in Nigeria to the best of the author’s knowledge. This study assesses the benefits of CD adoption in the Nigerian building industry (NBI). Primary data were collected from 216 architectural and engineering design firms domiciled in Lagos using a questionnaire survey. The findings indicated the top five benefits which include reduction in energy use by efficient utilization through design, development of new skill sets in circularity by design teams, reduction in pollution through reduced burning of fossil fuel, reduction of construction/demolition waste generation, improvement of public health by preserving local biodiversity. While increasing competitiveness amongst BDFs and resource security through optimisation and dematerialisation were ranked the least. The outcome can be ascribed to the fact that Nigeria currently faces an energy crisis with efforts being made in developing energy-efficient buildings and the need to minimize the environmental impact of construction practices. It was suggested that BDFs need to invest in CD expertise development through training and education, voluntary stewardship, and providing the requisite technologies to aid CD implementation. This study provided the basis for the needed debates on the relative benefits of CD adoption in the NBI.
