Combinational System of Lipid-Based Nanocarriers and Biodegradable Polymers for Wound Healing: An Updated Review

Abstract: Skin wounds have imposed serious socioeconomic burdens on healthcare providers and patients. There are just more than 25,000 burn injury-related deaths reported each year. Conventional treatments do not often allow the re-establishment of the function of affected regions and structures, resulting in dehydration and wound infections. Many nanocarriers, such as lipid-based systems or biobased and biodegradable polymers and their associated platforms, are favorable in wound healing due to their ability to promote… Show more

“…It is essential to carefully decipher these surface complexities in order to decipher the biocompatibility spectrum that is inherent to CeVO 4 NPs produced via various methods. [56][57][58] Likewise, careful consideration is required when analyzing cytotoxicity, given the unavoidable interaction that may occur between the effectiveness of the treatment and any negative consequences.…”

“…Currently, the efforts are also focused on the development of innovative therapeutic strategies regarding drug delivery systems for treating microbial infections and acute/chronic wounds [ 9 , 10 ]. Drug delivery systems in antimicrobial therapy represent an innovative approach to optimize the efficacy and safety of antimicrobial agents [ 11 ]. These systems aim to optimize the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antimicrobial drugs, ensuring controlled release and sustained therapeutic levels at the infection site.…”
