Combinative dyebath treatment with activated carbon and UV/H2O2: a case study on Everzol Black-GSP®

Abstract: Treatability of textile dyebath effluents by two simultaneously operated processes comprising adsorption and advanced oxidation was investigated using a reactive dyestuff, Everzol Black-GSP (EBG). The method was comprised of contacting aqueous solutions of the dye with hydrogen peroxide and granules of activated carbon (GAC) during irradiation of the reactor with ultraviolet light (UV). Control experiments were run separately with each individual process (advanced oxidation with UV/H2O2 and adsorption on GAC) … Show more

“…A reaction mechanism was earlier proposed for the interaction between Fenton reagents and aromatic compounds [29] and Orange II dye [30], which involves the generation of hydroquinone or hydroquinone-like and the redox cycle of hydroquinone/quinone in the Fenton reaction. That is an unstable key-intermediate that indicates a high probability of a quick rupture of both chemical bonds C1-C2 and C5-C6 (Fig.…”

That is an unstable key-intermediate that points out the quick and high probability of rupture of both chemical bonds C1-C2 and C5-C6 (Fig.…”

“…Considering the total mineralization of compounds, the photocatalytic ozonation has specific energy consumption much lower than conventional photocatalysis and ozonation. The Fenton's reagent and its alterations, such as the thermal Fenton process or the photo-Fenton reaction using Fe (II)/ Fe (III) oxalate ion, H 2 O 2 and UV radiation have established much consideration as a means for the whitening of synthetic dyes [69,70]. In the photo -Fenton technique, H 2 O 2 is used swiftly in three synchronized reactions and the shortest action of Fenton, photo -reduction of Fe (III) ions to Fe (II) and H 2 O 2 photolysis.…”
