Abstract. We obtained U -band photometry of 1500 stars and BV -band photometry of 3100 stars in a field centred on the HII regions of the northeast sector of the dwarf irregular galaxy IC 1613 -a member of the Local Group. The ages of the stellar populations were determined from the ((B − V ) 0 , M V ) color-magnitude using the isochrones from Padua's library. The stellar populations were split into three groups: the group of the youngest stars with ages of between 5 and 20 Myr, the group of intermediate stars with ages of 200−300 Myr and the group of old stars with ages up to 10 Gyr. The slope of the Stellar Initial Mass Function (IM F ) for blue stars is Γ = −2.0 ± 0.1 which is similar to that of other nearby galaxies. We investigated the stellar content of nine Hodge associations as well as that of seven new OB associations determined by cluster analysis. The total U , B and V magnitudes of eight Hodge open clusters and two new cluster candidates are given and there are six new possible nonstellar objects reported. The latter are most probably distant galaxies visible through the disk of IC 1613, which confirms the original suggestion of Baade that IC 1613 contains no bright globular clusters.

In a sample of six young open clusters (NGC 1502, NGC 3105, Stock 16, NGC 6268, NGC 7235, and NGC 7510) we investigated 1753 objects using the narrow band, three filter ∆a photometric system resulting in the detection of eleven bona-fide magnetic chemically peculiar (CP) stars and five Be or metal-weak stars. The results for the distant cluster NGC 3105 is most important because of the still unknown influence of the global metallicity gradient of the Milky Way. These findings confirm that CP stars are present in open clusters of very young ages (log t ≥ 6.90) at galactocentric distances up to 11.4 kpc. For all programme clusters the age, reddening, and distance modulus were derived using the corresponding isochrones. Some additional variable stars within Stock 16 could be identified by comparing different photometric studies.

ABSTRACT. New uvby and ß photoelectric photometry has been obtained for stars in NGC 1502, a young open cluster with relatively high interstellar reddening. It is shown that some of the previous published data for the cluster suffer from small systematic errors. After correction for zero-point differences, the previous data have been combined with the new data and accurate values of the interstellar reddening [E(b-y) =0.54 mag] and distance modulus [( V 0 -M v ) =9.71 mag] have been obtained. These are compared with similar values calculated from published UBVphotometry and MK spectral types, which agree well with the uvbyß analysis. It is found that the reddening is not variable over the cluster field, contrary to previous estimates. The fact that systematic errors exist in precise photometry highlights the importance of a careful selection of standard stars in any photometry of reddened B-type stars.
