“…The results show that PODEn can reduce these emissions significantly. In 2012e2013, Leonardo et al [24,25] studied PODE 3-5 supplied by Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi on diesel engines, and the mass distribution of oligomers in the PODE 3-5 product was the following: 36% However, the injection system exhibits a different dynamic response when fed on pure PODE 3-5 or 50% PODE 3-5 blends. In 2013, 10% and neat PODE 3-5 were tested on a Euro 2 Diesel engine.…”

“…As a new type of oxygenated fuel, polyoxymethylene dimethyl ethers (abbreviated to PODE n ) can effectively reduce emissions of diesel PM as PODE n have no C-C bonds in their molecular structure, have a huge carbon/hydrogen ratio and a high oxygen content with a large cetane number6789. PODE n can be synthesized by polymerization reaction using methanol as a raw material10. There are many crude materials that can be used to produce PODE n , including coal and biomass.…”

“…Regarding diesel blends, it is well‐known that soot formation can be efficiently suppressed by oxygen‐containing components, so‐called oxygenate fuels , . Within an early study, the potential of DMM has been demonstrated and shortly after, results obtained with OME 3,4 as well as OME 3 – 5 mixtures have been reported , . In a systematic study carried out by Härtl et al, the use of different oxygen‐containing compounds has been comprehensively investigated .…”

“…Regarding the combustion behavior of pure OMEs, OME mixtures such as OME 3 – 5 as well as pure OMEs with uniform chain length have been investigated , . By excluding conventional diesel fuel, formation of particulate matter and NO x can be suppressed almost completely which enables to overcome the soot‐NO x trade‐off .…”
