Combustion Characteristics of Pinus rigida Specimens Treated with Phosphorus-Nitrogen Additives

Abstract: This study was performed to test the combustive properties of Pinus rigida specimens treated with phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) additives. Each Pinus rigida specimen was painted three times with 15 wt% P-N additive solutions at room temperature. After drying the treated specimens, the combustion properties were examined using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). The time to ignition (TTI) for the treated specimens was 90 to 148 s except for the specimen treated with PP/ 4NH 4 + , and the time to flameout (TF) wa… Show more

“…It is also used to evaluate the flame spread on the surface of materials. The shape of the curve was typical for pine species in Korea (Chung and Jin 2010). The HRR curves showed two peaks: one for the untreated wood and one for the FRTW-vacuum specimens.…”

“…It refers to the thermal energy generated by the combustion reaction, and it is a constant burning time of the specimen with one pyrolytic form. If the EHC values were smaller than the value of the theoretical net heat of combustion, the result of EHC would not necessarily be a constant value for materials that consist of two or more mixtures (Chung and Jin 2010;Xu et al 2015). The average value of EHC was 27.7 MJ/kg and the maximum value was 251.8 MJ/kg for untreated specimens.…”

“…On the other hand, attempts to find the flame resistant of wood by tree species according to fire retardant paint were insufficient. Chung(2013Chung( , 2015 treated two types of fire retardant paint on Pinus rigida to develop eco-friendly fire retardant paint. The paint is a fire retardant paint based on alkylenediaminoalkyl-bis-phosphonic acid, and a fire retardant paint in which a nitrogen compound and a hydroxyl group are introduced into a phosphorus compound.…”
