“…The observed UV excitation bands were assigned to the intervalence charge transfer (IVCT) transitions and the 5 D 3 quenching of Tb 3+ was attributed to the presence of an IVCT state [33,34]. In order to investigate the effect of IVCT in our samples, we inspected the excitation spectra of Tb 3+ in this study and that for Dy 3+ -and Eu 3+ -doped NaY(WO 4 ) 2 [19,35] and found that these materials have the very similar UV excitation bands centered at around 260 nm. Since there is not IVCT for Dy 3+ -and Eu 3+ -doped NaY(WO 4 ) 2 according to the IVCT model, the UV excitation bands for these materials must have the same origin, viz., the fundamental host absorption due to O 2À !…”

“…Of these tungstates, sodium yttrium tungstate NaY(WO 4 ) 2 with tetragonal scheelite-type (CaWO 4 ) structure has excellent physical-chemical stability, and is considered recently to be an efficient luminescent host candidate [18,19].…”

“…On the other hand, NGW crystals also have the advantages of the stable chemical properties, wide absorption in ultraviolet (UV) region and high damage threshold. Few reports have been published with these type of materials such as NaY 1 À x Eu x (WO 4 ) 2 , Eu 3 þ -doped NaGd (WO 4 ) 2 , Tb 3 þ -doped NaGd(WO 4 ) 2 , Dy 3 þ :NaY(WO 4 ) 2 , Eu 3 þ doped KGd(WO 4 ) 2 and Pr 3 þ doped CsGd(WO 4 ) 2 [23][24][25][26]. These reports show that most of the double tungstate based phosphors were prepared by conventional solid state reaction methods.…”
