INTRODUCTIONAcute kidney injury (AKI) is a complex syndrome defined by a rapid increase in serum creatinine (sCr), decrease in urine output, or both (Ronco et al., 2019). AKI represents a global health problem that is independently associated with a high risk of mortality as well as with a high expenditure in healthcare systems (Coca et al., 2009;Fortrie et al., 2019). AKI incidence is growing annually worldwide (Malhotra et al., 2019;Xue et al., 2006), probably due to an increase in risk factors for AKI such as advanced age, diabetes
