Community Resilience in Urban Tourist Destinations

“…Specifically, it includes a comprehensive index method, resilience network method, function model method, and layer-stacking method in order to analyze the degree of urban resilience comprehensively and quantitatively [18]. Based on this, urban resilience-related research focuses on typical geographic research areas (e.g., the Yangtze River Delta region and cities in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River) or specific types of cities (e.g., resource cities, tourism cities, and coastal cities) [13,15,[19][20][21]; however, few studies have investigated the resilience of border cities. At the same time, border cities, as an important urban type, have introduced the resilience theory to the border.…”

“…Research on resilience in tourism destinations was carried out using interviews (Holladay and Powell 2016 ), structural equation modeling (Wang et al 2017 ), early warning technology (Nancy AB et al 2018 ), and other methods. Such work is hoped to enhance the resilience on island tourist destinations (Dogru et al 2019 ; Banerjee et al 2018 ) and in tourist communities (Bangwayo-Skeete and Skeete 2020 ) and cities (Guo et al 2018 ), as well as to promote study of the sustainable development of tourist destinations (Erdmenger 2019 ). By studying and analyzing resilience at home and abroad, a theoretical framework has been formed for resilience research that focuses mostly on emergencies.…”

“…Culture is an essential element of urban transformation due to its role in promoting consumption and territorial marking in the context of global tourism and economic flows [60]. The right to the city influences urban policies [61] and indigenous culture should not be lost due to massive tourism [62], as it is an important element of the social capital of an urban destination [63]. Massive tourism also produces pollution [64] that affects the quality of life and tourist carrying capacity needs to be included in planning for sustainable tourism [65].…”
