Abstract: The QCM assessed is commutable to feline PP within the tested ranges for 2 particular analyzers. Commutability does not grant interchangeability.

“…Table shows TE obs for chemistry and blood gas measurands based on analysis of QCM data. TE obs values for these measurands were all below ASVCP‐recommended TE a values . The absolute percent bias between the EPOC and comparative hematology methods was relatively high for all comparisons (EPOC HCT vs manual PCV 29%; EPOC HCT vs Advia HCT 43%; and EPOC HGB vs Advia HGB 38%).…”

“…Studies assessing the commutability of QCM with camelid whole blood are lacking. A recent study described the commutability of a commercial control material with feline plasma (a less complex matrix than whole blood) . Commutability in that study was defined as the ability of QCM to provide similar results to those of plasma or serum samples from healthy and diseased animals.…”

“…Therefore, additional tests may be required to assess the potential difference between the evaluation of analyzer performance with species‐specific materials such as pooled patient samples and commercial, usually human quality control material. Species‐specific control materials are usually not easily accessible due to legal restrictions and volume constraints, and sample stability and required concentration ranges present additional challenges …”

“…Therefore, only a single instrument performance study was carried out in order to calculate estimates of analytic quality (CV and bias) which are requested by the ASVCP RI guidelines . Nevertheless, this is not ideal as it is recommended to run quality controls routinely (for instance weekly), even in case of internal quality control functions present, and ideally species‐specific quality controls should be implemented in a study as this one …”
