Compact GPS Microstrip Patch Antenna

Abstract: In this paper, the effect of shorting wall length on the circular polarization of shorted microstrip patch antenna is examined. The theoretical analysis is based on the High Frequency Software Simulator (HFSSR). A designed antenna for the GPS application at the civilian GPS frequency (1.575 GHz) has been fabricated and measured. The measured data for the fabricated antenna is taken by 8719 ES vector network analyzer. Results of the designed antenna show good circularly polarized with a reduction in its size by… Show more

“…Professors Jim James and Peter Hall have created a large body of work on this topic [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. This work has since been extended by other authors [10][11][12][13]. The size of the patch antenna cab be reduced by using shorting pins; shorting walls; slots; ceramic materials; fractals and folded patches and ground planes [14][15][16][17][18].…”

“…The metallic patch can be square, rectangular, strip, circular, triangular, elliptical, or any combination of these shapes. Mostly, rectangular and circular shapes are used because they are the easiest in analysis and fabrication [10][11][12][13][14][15][16].…”

“…Position of shorting pin depends on the application. A compact size microstrip antenna configuration [4] is given below: Another configuration is probe-fed shorted patch antenna operating at dual band [7]. It's operated on dual frequency band I.S and 2.45 GHz and yields bandwidth of 17.4% for lower operating band which covers DeS and 3% for upper frequency band which covers ISM band with rectangular patch of dimension 36*16 mm2.…”
