Comparability of Raman Spectroscopic Configurations: A Large Scale Cross-Laboratory Study

Abstract: The variable configuration of Raman spectroscopic platforms is one of the major obstacles in establishing Raman spectroscopy as a valuable physicochemical method within real-world scenarios such as clinical diagnostics. For such real world applications like diagnostic classification, the models should ideally be usable to predict data from different setups. Whether it is done by training a rugged model with data from many setups or by a primary-replica strategy where models are developed on a 'primary' setup a… Show more

“…In addition, standardization between Raman devices will be required before generalization of the results. 43 In conclusion, this study indicates that acute and chronic inflammation of the retina induced by demyelinating diseases is associated with significant alterations in molecules related to energy metabolism and excitotoxicity, as well as with neuronal and synaptic maintenance. Considering that the retina is considered a gray matter structure of the CNS and given the association between retinal and CNS damage in patients with MS, the molecular changes observed here are likely to be representative of the overall molecular changes in the gray matter associated with demyelinating diseases.…”

“…Raman spectroscopy is a label free and chemically selective technique that is capable of performing a biochemical map non-invasively of macroscopic specimens at submicrometric resolution. It holds the potential to greatly impact the biomedical field as a powerful clinical investigation tool for diagnosis, providing biochemical information matched with specific morphological features [ 22 , 23 , 24 ]. In this study, direct spectroscopic evaluation of major Raman features of different groups was performed.…”

“…However, further studies on optical interfaces to the bones, as well as better optical signal acquisition and recovery are needed. Moreover, for the wide application of the optical method in the investigation of tissues and other biological materials, it is necessary to compare and optimize the performance of different PS-OCT and Raman measurement systems [68][69][70][71]. In the further stage, more precise quantitate calibration of developed photonic sensing system will be also carried out with the use of well-established methods such as densitometry or X-ray investigation.…”
