Comparative Evaluation of Antioxidant Reactivity between Ovariectomized and Control Urinary Bladder Tissue Using Ferric Reducing Ability of Plasma and Cupric Ion Reducing Antioxidant Capacity Assays

Abstract: Objectives: In rabbits, ovariectomy has been shown to cause reduced blood flow to the bladder, increased free radical generation, and oxidative damage to the bladder. Thus, the antioxidant status of rabbits may play an important role in the damaging effects of ovariectomy. The present study analyzed total antioxidant content (TAC) in control, 14‐ and 28‐day ovariectomized (Ovx) female rabbit bladders using both ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) and cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity (CURPAC) assa… Show more

“…Absorbance readings were measured in duplicate at 450 nm. The samples of urine and plasma were diluted with water until their readings were within the standard curve and the dilutions and a 1:1 dilution showed a 50% decrease in the absorbance reading 20–22…”
