Comparative study of neutron and nuclear matter with simplified Argonne nucleon-nucleon potentials

Abstract: We present calculations of the energy per particle of pure neutron and symmetric nuclear matter with simplified Argonne nucleon-nucleon potentials for different many-body theories. We compare critically the BruecknerHartree-Fock results to other formalisms, such as the Brueckner-Bethe-Goldstone expansion up to third order, self-consistent Green's functions, auxiliary field diffusion Monte Carlo, and Fermi hypernetted chain. We evaluate the importance of spin-orbit and tensor correlations in the equation of sta… Show more

“…Nuclear matter calculations based on variational chain summation methods [25] give ρ 0 = 0.30 fm −3 , E/A| 0 = −18.22 MeV in the case of the AV18 potential with no TBF. The differences between the results of [25] and our BHF results reflect the sensitivity of nuclear matter calculations to the particular quantum many-body technique (see, e.g., [55,56]). …”

“…First of all, due to the difference in the two-body potential used in the calculations: the AV18 in the present paper and the AV8 in [69]. Second, as discussed in [55,56], the use of different many-body approaches affects considerably the results particularly in the case of SNM. …”

“…We refer the reader to Ref. [22] for a detailed discussion on the comparison between different ab-initio methods to calculate the EoS in SNM. The BHF have been extended to even larger values of the density to be used as a guidance for the production of EoS for astrophysical purposes [13,53] and thus used as a reference for constraining effective interactions [45].…”
