Comparative Study on the Thermal-Aging Characteristics of Cellulose Insulation Polymer Immersed in New Three-Element Mixed Oil and Mineral Oil

Abstract: Cellulose paper, whose main component is cellulose polymer, has been widely used in oil-immersed power transformer that gradually deteriorates during transformer operation. Thermal aging is the main degradation form for cellulose paper immersed in insulation oil (oil–paper insulation) in a transformer. One of the most challenging issues in oil–paper insulation is inhibiting the aging of cellulose paper and extending its life. In this work, a comparative study was conducted on the thermal-aging characteristics … Show more

“…After polymerization, they rearrange themselves with fibrils of high orders in them influencing characteristics like texture, density and other properties. 9 Studies on cellulose modification didn't start yesterday but rather in the 1880s. During Gunpowder warfare, cellulose nitrate was made accidentally by treating Cellulose with nitrate.…”

“…Power transformers perform a vital task of transforming electrical energy in power systems, and the condition evaluation of its internal oil/paper system has attracted wide attention [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ]. In recent years, a prevailing method of moisture determination is the so-called frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) [ 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ] technique, which is also called dielectric frequency response (DFR) technique.…”

“…The aging process of insulating paper is the process of breaking the macromolecular chain of cellulose, causing a decrease in the degree of polymerization (DP) of insulating paper [4]. The DP is an index to measure the size of a polymer molecule based on the number of repeating units, and is the average number of repeating units contained on the polymer macromolecular chain [5]. By directly measuring the DP of the insulating paper, the aging information can be clearly obtained [6,7].…”
