Comparison between Outcomes of Vitrectomy in Granulomatous and Nongranulomatous Uveitis

Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the outcomes of vitrectomy in granulomatous uveitis and nongranulomatous uveitis insufficiently managed by immunosuppressive therapy. Methods: Thirty-eight eyes with granulomatous uveitis and 17 eyes with nongranulomatous uveitis that underwent vitrectomy for ocular complications between July 2006 and August 2012 were reviewed retrospectively. Visual acuity and ocular inflammation scores before and 6 months after surgery were compared. Patients treated with vitrect… Show more

“…[ 9 11 ] These achievements promote the use of therapeutic vitrectomy in patients with VO caused by uveitis of unknown etiology. [ 12 15 ] Therefore, the diagnostic yield and therapeutic effects of vitrectomy in uveitic eyes with VO are improving, although surgical outcome in cases of infectious uveitis, especially endophthalmitis, remains unfavorable.…”

“…The functional improvement of eyes with uveitis after PPV has been also associated with the reportedly improved intraocular inflammation [9,[14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. The effect of PPV on the inflammation status of eyes with uveitis has been evaluated in several previous studies, and the clearance of active inflammatory mediators from the vitreous cavity has been advocated as the main factor responsible for the decreased uveitis activity.…”

“…Прогноз неосложненного увеита при адекватной терапии, как правило, благоприятный. Вместе с тем более чем у половины пациентов воспаление принимает хроническое рецидивирующее течение, что обуславливает высокий процент потери зрительных функций и инвалидизации пациентов [3,4]. Последнее обстоятельство вызывает необходимость поиска причин неблагоприятного исхода данной патологии.…”
