Comparison between the values of intra-ocular pressure measured by Goldmann applanation tonometer and Air-Puff non-contact tonometer and their relationship with central corneal thickness

Abstract: Objective: Glaucoma is a sight threatening disorder. Measuring the IOP with accuracy plays a pivotal role in diagnosing and monitoring glaucoma. The purpose of this study was to compare the values of non-contact tonometer; air-puff and GAT (Goldmann Applanation Tonometer) along with its correlation to central corneal thickness (CCT), in various IOP (intra-ocular pressure) groups. Methods: Cross-sectional, prospective study. 311 patients were enrolled in this study. IOP was taken in all patients with APT and GA… Show more

“…Glaucoma may result in irreversible visual impairment in children, which is responsible for 5% of blindness in children worldwide [21][22] . A decrease in IOP is the only reliable treatment strategy for pediatric glaucoma [23] . Accordingly, accurate measurement of IOP and optic nerve assessment should be considered in children, although less than 10% of untreated OHT progress to glaucoma after 5-10y [21,24] .…”

“…The main outcome measure of the study was an elevated IOP. An elevated IOP value was defined as ≥21 mmHg in at least one of the subject’s two eyes, as the current consensus [ 1 , 22 ].…”
