Comparison of biochemical and antimicrobial activities of different honey samples

Abstract: Honey, a natural healing agent and a sweet food, has been used since ancient times. A honey sample could possess many biological activities depending on its chemical composition. The amount and the diversity of these minor components of honey mainly depend on the floral sources. That is why the biological activity of the honey sample obtained in a region should be determined. In this study, total phenolic and flavonoid content, antioxidant activity, melissopalynological analyses and antimicrobial activity of t… Show more

“…This result seems in consistent with the previous observations that monofloral honey has a greater antibacterial effect than multifloral honey [ 44 ]. There is a good correlation between total phenolic content and the biological activity of honey samples [ 52 ]. Alternative medicines have been regarded by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a low-cost option to achieving universal health coverage for the world's population, and member authorities have been encouraged to use plant-based alternative medicines rationally [ 53 ].…”

“…The protein–carbohydrate interactions and the occurrence of polyphenol–protein complexes are important for aggregated structures of AgNPs. In recent years, studies focused on the prevention of aging, degenerative heart and nervous system diseases and the protection of foods from oxidation, especially related to human health, have increased by utilizing the antioxidant properties of chestnut honey [ 16 , 20 ]. In addition, the use of honey in dentistry is becoming widespread.…”

“…Recently, interest in bee products has increased due to diseases such as Covid 19, cancer, ulcer, etc. Because bee products have different biological activities such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer (Münstedt and Bogdanov, 2009;Alvarez-Suarez, 2017;Pasupuleti, et al, 2017;Keskin et al, 2021;Narimaneet al, 2021). Brood cover wax material is a natural bee product that produced by bumblebees.…”
