Comparison of Common Postoperative Complications Between Lichtenstein Open Repair and Laparoscopic Transabdominal Pre-peritoneal (TAPP) Repair for Unilateral Inguinal Hernia

Abstract: IntroductionLaparoscopic transabdominal pre-peritoneal (TAPP) repair is a minimally invasive technique that is becoming the procedure of choice among surgeons for inguinal hernia repair and research work is still going on comparing TAPP repair with Lichtenstein open mesh repair. The objective of our study is to compare common postoperative complications in Lichtenstein mesh repair and laparoscopic TAPP repair for unilateral inguinal hernia in our unit. MethodsBetween August 2016 and August 2018, patients with … Show more

“…Bei Patienten, welche eine postoperative Komplikation erlitten, wurden Einschränkungen in Bezug auf die Lebensqualität beobachtet. Das Auftreten von Komplikationen beeinflusste das subjektive Empfinden von Gesundheit 4 Wochen nach der Operation signifikant (EQ5D-VAS: 72,14 [18,2] vs. 86,13 [12,9], p = 0,026;…”

“…It offers some advantages over traditional open hernia repair, including smaller incisions, quicker recovery, and potentially less risk of infection. 4 It is important to note that the suitability of the laparoscopic TAPP procedure depends on various factors, including the size and type of the hernia and the patient's overall health. 5 Laparoscopic TAPP has a high learning curve as at least 50 procedures are necessary to reduce complication rates and more than 100 procedures are needed to achieve similar results with open mesh repair.…”
