Comparison of different therapy approaches in children with Down syndrome

Abstract: The results of the present study showed that sensory integration, vestibular stimulation and neurodevelopmental therapy were effective in children with Down syndrome. It was concluded that when designing rehabilitation programs for children with Down syndrome, all treatment methods should be applied in combination, and should support each other according to the individual needs of the child.

“…More interestingly, motor exercise interacts with cognitive function in Ts65Dn mice (Kida et al 2013 ). Impaired tonicity has been reported in children with TRS21 (Uyanik et al 2003 ) as poor limb coordination. Ts65Dn mice displayed impaired tonicity and hind limb coordination (effect size 55% and 67%, respectively, see Table 2 ; Fig.…”

“…Many researchers have developed methods for children with ID to improve their learning and adaptive behaviors. Methods include behavior modification, exercise therapy, visual perception (VP) training, and sensory integrative therapy (Allinder, 2000;Fox & Oross, 1992;Tomporowski & Ellis, 1984;Uyanik, Bumin, Kayihan, & Bumin, 2003). One example of this is a VP training program intended to improve VP and attentional ability through training perceptual discrimination between figure and ground.…”

“…Heart test and lower limbs X-ray There is no reference in literature about duration and frequency of therapy considered more appropriate for positive treatment results. However, most authors seem to follow a mean duration of 60 minutes and one to three times a week sessions (28,29). According with data of this research, only one of the institutions, where 5 of the participants work offers 60-minute sessions.…”
