Comparison of Metabolome and Transcriptome of Flavonoid Biosynthesis in Two Colors of Coreopsis tinctoria Nutt.

Abstract: Coreopsis tinctoria Nutt. (C. tinctoria) has a long history of application and high economic and medicinal value. Flavonoids, the main active components of C. tinctoria, are widely studied in pharmacology and food development. However, the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway in C. tinctoria is unclear. In this study, we comprehensively compared the transcriptomes and metabolite profiles of two colors of C. tinctoria flowers (LS and JS) at different flowering stages. A total of 165 flavonoids (46 flavonoids, 42 flav… Show more

“…In recent years, integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses as efficient tools to underly the molecular mechanisms of key metabolic pathways in plants (Rothenberg et al ., 2019; Wang et al ., 2020 a ; Jiang et al ., 2022; Light and Stress, 2022). A detailed description of secondary metabolic changes occurring in the whole germinated seeds as well as cotyledons, hypocotyls and roots from 3 to 9 days old tomato seedlings via LCMS profiling, which provided a new perspective to study metabolic networks controlling flavonoid biosynthesis in tomato (Roldan et al ., 2014).…”

“…The anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway has been the subject of extensive research in a variety of plant species [70][71][72]. Existing literature demonstrates that anthocyanins responsible for regulating petal color development depend on pigmentation and the relative expression of biosynthetic genes [73,74]. Notably, the changes in the coloration of petals are principally attributed to six anthocyanidins (petunidin, peonidin, pelargonidin, malvidin, delphinidin, and cyanidin) [75,76].…”

“…Flavonoids, essential secondary metabolites, play a significant role in protecting plants against various stresses 6 . Flavonoids encompass yellow pigments derived from flavonoids, including chalcone, dihydroflavonoids, Flavones, and anthocyanins 7 . In plants, flavonoids primarily exist as glycosides bound to sugars or in free form 8 .…”
