Comparison of Placido, Scheimpflug and Combined Dual Scheimpflug-Placido Technologies in Evaluating Anterior and Posterior CLMI, SimK's as well as Kmax, in Keratoconic and Postrefractive Surgery Ectasia

Abstract: Purpose To calculate and compare cone location and magnitude index (CLMI), Kmax and other corneal measures derived from three different technologies, Placido, Scheimpflug, and a combination dual Scheimpflug-Placido device, from the same group of eyes with keratoconus and postrefractive surgery corneal ectasia. Methods Keratoconus (n = 26) eyes of (n = 19) subjects and postrefractive surgery ectasia (n = 5) eyes of (n = 5) subjects were selected to have measurements performed using the Keratron Scout, Pentaca… Show more

“…It should however, noted that though CLMI can be calculated using data from various different devices, it may show significantly different results with different technologies (devices), the magnitude of the differences is not likely to be clinically relevant to study of ecstatic disorders. 15 Visual acuity did not show significant difference between groups. This may be influenced by the fact that the central cone group had a worse visual acuity to begin with.…”

“…Comparison between a small mire Placido device and two Scheimpflug devices, one with and one without an integrated Placido has been reported in the literature in keratoconus. 13 Interestingly, maximum anterior surface curvature using the axial algorithm was greatest in small mire Placido device, and lowest in the pure Scheimpflug device. The integrated Scheimpflug/Placido system which used a large mire Placido, was in between the other two.…”
