Comparison of Q Angle and Tibial Torsion Among Premier League Futsal Players With and Without Hamstring Tightness

Abstract: Purpose: Hamstring muscle is a two-jointed muscle, which is attached to the pelvis at one end and to tibia at the other. Contractures of the hamstring muscles affect the position of proximal and distal joints. The present study aims to compare the value of quadriceps angle ('Q angle') and tibial torsion among Premier League Futsal players with and without hamstring tightness. Methods:In this expost facto study, 30 male players, aged 18 to 25 years old, were nonrandomly and purposefully selected as subjects. Th… Show more

“…Present study was in line with previous study which discover that futsal player having tight hamstring also showed increase in Q angle and lateral tibial torsion, but this did not take medial tibial torsion into consideration [7]. Normally medial tibial torsion is present at birth and lack of transition of medial tibial torsion to lateral torsion causes pronation of the foot.…”

“…Hamstrings is indispensable in stabilizing tibia from anterior and rotational forces so tightness of the hamstring muscle may cause tibial torsion. Hamstring muscle exibility contributes in smooth and precise ambulatory pattern in knee joint [7]. A study conducted on the futsal players showed that players with hamstring tightness had increased tibial torsion as compared to the control group [7], hamstring muscle tightness may also be linked with postural disturbance and these two can cause multiple musculoskeletal condition [8].…”

“…Women demonstrate between a 2.7 to 5.8° greater quadriceps angle (Q angle) than men when supine and between a 3.4° to 4.9° greater angle when standing 83 . A study in male futsal players has found a larger Q angle may predispose one to increased hamstring tightness, which has been associated with risk for HSI 84 . Women are also shown to have 1.9° to 4° greater anterior pelvic tilt than men, which can increase the risk for HSI by elongating the hamstring musculotendinous unit and predisposing it to increased stress and strain 80,82,85,86 .…”
