Comparison of Size of Two Spinal Needles in Post - Dural Puncture Headac H E : A Retrospective Study

Abstract: The promotion of epidural and spinal blocks as preferred and safe techniques for Caesarean section and the use of lumbar puncture for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes place patients at risk of developing Post-Dural Puncture Headache (PDPH). A dull and throbbing bilateral headache associated with changes in posture (Worsened by sitting and standing and better lying down), that develops within seven days of a lumbar puncture or an inadvertent dural puncture must raise the suspicion of PDPH. The exact causativ… Show more

“…Bajwa et al recorded first attempt success rate with 23 G spinal needle as 92.8% and with 86.2% with 26 G spinal needle. 9 Mohammed et al reported 85% 1st attempt success with 25 G Quincke needle. 10 Oberhofer when examined 26-gauge spinal, recorded first attempt success rate of 72.9% and second attempt success rate as 20.3%.…”

“…[6][7][8] Technical difficulty while using thinner needles further hampers the first attempt success rate and increases failure of block. 5,9,10 Considering how the needle gauge affects the performance of SA and how this can interfere with success of SA, authors compared the different gauge spinal needles i.e. 23, 25 and 26 G needles with regards to technical difficulty, success rate, quality of block and complications.…”

“…This disease is prevalent in Indian, Mediterranean, South Chinese, Middle Eastern, and Southeast Asian descent (Li, 2017). As it is an autosomal recessive disorder, both parents must be affected by or be carriers of the gene to pass it to their offspring (Bajwa & Basit, 2019).…”

“…β-thalassemia major (β-TM) is an inherited autosomal recessive disorder caused by either reduction or absence in β-globin chain synthesis [ 1 ]. Despite the rare dominant forms, patients with β-TM are either homozygotes or compound heterozygotes for β0 or β+ genes [ 2 , 3 ].…”
