Comparison of the adaptive potential of the Arthrobacter oxydans and Acinetobacter lwoffii isolates from permafrost sedimentary rock and the analogous collection strains

Abstract: Breath testing has enormous potential in the medical diagnostic field. The underlying complexity and perceived availability of adequate specimens, combined with a lack of knowledge of the metabolic pathways that give rise to compounds that are sources of analytes detectable in breath, has greatly slowed development. These real obstacles have recently been largely overcome in the use of breath testing to identify patients with cystic fibrosis associated Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection and tuberculosis. This re… Show more

“…lwofii strains EK30A (a permafrost isolate) and BSW 27 (a collec tion strain) grown on TSB/2 medium were compared using the HCCA matrix. Analysis of the proteins of the cells of both species based on their m/z and intensity ( Table 2) revealed 23 common peaks, i.e., 54 and 26% of the total peak number, respectively (Table 2), which confirms the validity of the species identification of the permafrost isolate EK30A [19]. The intensity of the common peaks in the protein spectra of the cells of the collection strain BSW 27 exceeded that of the cells of permafrost isolate EK30A (Figs.…”

“…The dormant forms of Arthro bacter strains were obtained by growing them (i) in standard LB medium, with subsequent storage of the developed culture at 28°C for 2 months; (ii) in a nitro gen limited medium, with subsequent storage at 4°C for 2 months; and (iii) in a medium with a phosphate imbalance, with subsequent storage at 28°C for 2 months [19]. The DFs obtained in (i), (ii), and (iii) were referred to as DF S , DF N , and DF P , respectively.…”

“…the 100% similarity occurred, while the strains had clear differences in colony morphology (data not shown) and physiology (Tables S3 and S4). This indicates that these strains are the intrapopulation variation, considering the data showed, that strains from natural habitats have high dissociation activity under stress conditions [63].…”
