Comparison of the Four Anthropometric Indexes and Their Association With Stroke: A Population-Based Cross-Sectional Study in Jilin Province, China

Abstract: Background: Stroke is a leading cause of long-term adult disability and death in China, and primary prevention is essential for stroke. The aim of this study is to compare the four anthropometric indexes (body mass index, waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, and waist-to-height ratio) and identify the index that is most closely related to stroke in areas with high incidence of stroke. Methods: A total of 4,052 participants aged 40 years or older were selected by the multistage stratified cluster sampling m… Show more

“…Recent studies attempted to identify the association between abdominal obesity and risk of stroke and stroke-related mortality [36][37][38]. When using WC for the abdominal obesity index, results obtained were either insignificant or inconsistent with our previous findings [36,37]. These studies used WC adjusted by hip or height for the alternative index for abdominal obesity, and yielded significant association between central obesity and stroke.…”

The detailed program has been published before [ 24 ].…”

“…This study was aimed at comparing the relationship between the four anthropometric indicators and diabetes in areas with a high incidence of diabetes in Jilin Province, along with the effectiveness of the different indicators in diagnosing diabetes, by inferring the optimum cut-off values and differences due to sex of the participants. [22,23]. The detailed program has been published before [24].…”
