Abstract: 4HIIT was superior to 1HIIT and MICT in improving V˙O2max likely because of an increased SV.

“…The reason for the small increase in maximal oxygen uptake in both groups is not obvious. In other studies an increase in maximal oxygen uptake caused by 10 weeks of high intensity endurance training is normally reported to be as much as 10% [43][44][45]. In our study heart rate was related to maximal heart frequency when maximal oxygen uptake was tested.…”

“…The American College of Sports Medicine recommends an exercise program that is primarily aerobic-based in order to reduce BP (Pescatello et al 2004). Continuous and interval are the most commonly used aerobic trainings (Baekkerud et al 2015). Continuous training (CT) is characterized by a high volume of work without any interruption, and interval training (IT) involves bursts of vigorous exercise separated by periods of rest or recovery (Bompa 2002).…”

“…They showed that improvements in aerobic fitness and exercise performance are intensity dependent, though changes in markers of skeletal muscle oxidative capacity are not different between the groups. This findings suggest that the additional improvements in VO 2 max are a result of a greater cardiovascular adaptation, and high-intensity training is necessary for cardiac improvement, 8,[10][11][12] which is a rate-limiting step in the improvement of aerobic fitness in athletes as well as healthy active individuals. 13 …”

“…The accumulation of tVO 2 max is a key factor in maximizing the training stimulus to improve aerobic fitness, 8,[10][11][12] and a variety of combinations of work duration and active/passive recovery have been reported.…”
