Competition Between Antiferromagnetic and Charge-Density-Wave Order in the Half-Filled Hubbard-Holstein Model

Abstract: We present a determinant quantum Monte Carlo study of the competition between instantaneous on-site Coulomb repulsion and retarded phonon-mediated attraction between electrons, as described by the two dimensional Hubbard-Holstein model. At half filling, we find a strong competition between antiferromagnetism (AFM) and charge density wave (CDW) order. We demonstrate that a simple picture of AFM-CDW competition that incorporates the phonon mediated attraction into an effective-U Hubbard model requires significan… Show more

“…Here, in the finite T 2D case, we find indications of such a phase. 73 This is most clearly seen in the spectral weight at the Fermi level, which is related to G(τ = β/2) 73 and is shown in Fig. 1b.…”

“…[69][70][71][72] Recently this work was extended and a finite temperature phase diagram was proposed for the twodimensional (2D) case at half-filling using determinant quantum Monte Carlo (DQMC). 73 Fig. 1 sketches the result, extending the diagram shown in Fig.…”
