Complete mitochondrial genome of Aeolesthes oenochrous (Fairmaire) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae): an endangered and colorful longhorn beetle

Abstract: Aeolesthes oenochrous (Fairmaire), a large and colorful longhorn beetle, is an endangered species in Taiwan. Its complete mitogenome, 15,747 bp, shows a typical coleopteran organization, containing 13 protein coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and one A + T rich region. Two protein coding genes, i.e. COI and ND1, have the atypical start codon of AAT and TTG, respectively. The third nucleotide position of codons shows extremely low guanine content. In the A + T rich region, there were two poly-T stretche… Show more

“…The remaining two PCGs begin with atypical codons: COI with AAT and ND1 with TTG, as found in Aeolesthes oenochrous (Fairmaire) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) (Chiu et al 2016). AAT (Asparagine) is highly conserved in coleopteran Polyphaga (Sheffield et al 2008), and TTG (Leucine) has been proposed as the start codon of ND1 in Anopheles quadrimaculatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae) and Tricholepidion gertschi Wygodzinsky (Insecta, Zygentoma) (Mitchell et al 1993, Nardi et al 2003).…”

“…In order to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships of Lamiinae, we used 13 protein-coding genes of 24 species, which contained Galeruca daurica as the outgroup (Kim et al 2009;Lu et al 2011;Chiu et al 2016;Fang et al 2016;Guo et al 2016;Li et al 2016;Wang et al 2016;Lim et al 2017;Liu et al 2017;Yang et al 2017;Liu et al 2018;Que et al 2019;Wang, Lan, et al 2019). MrBayes version 3.2 and the RAxML version 8 programs (Ronquist et al 2012;Stamatakis 2014) were used to construct BI and ML trees, respectively (Figure 1).…”

“…For the purpose of reconstructing the phylogenetic relationships of Cerambycidae, a nucleotide dataset (13P26) of the 13 protein-coding genes of 26 complete mitogenomes was used (Table 1) according to the methods of Zhang et al (2019), this included the 5 newly determined sequences and 18 published complete mitogenomes of Cerambycidae (Kim et al, 2009;Chiu et al, 2016;Fang et al, 2016;Guo et al, 2016;Li et al, 2016a;Li et al, 2016b;Wang et al, 2016;Lim et al, 2017;Liu et al, 2017;Song et al, 2017;Liu et al, 2018;Que et al, 2019;Wang et al, 2019). Three species of Galerucinae, Paleosepharia posticata, Diabrotica barberi and Diabrotica virgifera served as the out-groups (Coates & Brad, 2014;Wang & Tang, 2017).…”
