Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the giant mud worm Paraleonnates uschakovi Khlebovich & Wu, 1962 (Polychaeta: Nereididae)

Abstract: Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the giant mud worm Paraleonnates uschakovi (Polychaeta: Nereididae) was determined in this study for the first time. The mitogenome of P. uschakovi is 15,540 bp in length. It has 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and a non-coding region. Mitogenome analysis of P. uschakovi showed inversion in the positions of three tRNAs compared to the mitogenome sequences of Perinereis aibuhitensis, P. nuntia and Platynereis dumerilii. The phylogenetic position o… Show more

“…1) to 17,469 bp in Platynereis massiliensis . All genes were coded on the same strand, consistent with previously published Nereididae mitochondrial genomes (Boore & Brown, ; Chen, Li, et al, ; Kim, Choi, Kim, & Min, ; Kim et al, ; Kim, Kim, & Lee, ; Lin et al, , ; Park et al, , ; Seixas et al, ; Won et al, ). Appendix shows information on base composition and nucleotide bias in the mitochondrial genomes sequenced.…”

“…Genome annotations were performed with the MITOS web server (Bernt et al, ), and genes boundaries were manually adjusted by comparison with the same P. dumerilii sequence in ARTEMIS (Rutherford et al, ). For mtDNA genomes obtained herein, we evaluated gene composition and order for comparison to the distinct gene order groups described by Park et al () based on the position of ATP8 and three tRNAs (tyrosine, methionine and aspartic acid).…”

“…Also, the comparison of partial mitochondrial COI sequences revealed significant difference between east and west north Pacific populations ( Figure 1(A); personal data of the author). Although, the comparison of complete mitogenome sequence may provide more valuable evolutionary information for phylogenetic studies (Chen et al 2016), only seven nereidids are available (Boore 2001;Won et al 2013;Kim et al 2014;Chen et al 2016;Kim et al 2016;Lin et al 2016;Park et al 2016). The purpose of this study was to determine the complete mitogenome sequence for eastern Asian population of C. cyclurus.…”

“…MF538532), and encoded 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, and 22 tRNA genes) and a non-coding region of 383 bp. According to Park et al (2016), nereidids have two types of gene order groups depending on the patterns of following regions: tRNA-Tyr, ATP8, tRNA-Met, and tRNA-Asp (Group 1) and tRNA-Met, tRNA-Asp, ATP8, and tRNA-Tyr (Group 2). Gene order of C. cyclurus is identical to Group 1.…”
