Complex Adsorption of Short Linear Alkanes in the Flexible Metal-Organic-Framework MIL-53(Fe)

Abstract: This investigation is based on a combination of experimental tools completed by a computational approach to deeply characterize the unusual adsorption behavior of the flexible MIL-53(Fe) in the presence of short linear alkanes. In contrast to the aluminum or chromium analogues we previously reported, the iron MIL-53 solid, which initially exhibits a closed structure in the dry state, shows more complex adsorption isotherms with multisteps occurring at pressures that depend on the nature of the alkane. This beh… Show more

“…MIL-53(Fe) and MIL-53(Cr) exist in closed and open desolvated forms, respectively, but neither has been shown to adopt both desolvated forms. 40 [Al(OH)(ndc)] (ndc = 2,6-napthalenedicarboxylate) can be synthesised as a narrow-pore form (as MIL-69) and wide-pore form as DUT-4, 41 resembling the extremes of the breathing motions of MIL-53, but unlike SHF-61 these MOFs have been shown to be neither flexible nor interconvertible. 3 loses solvent without substantial change in pore dimensions, due to weak solvent-framework interactions.…”

“…The data were collected on 0.5-mm quartz capillaries filled with sample and attached to a built gas manifold. [6] The sample capillary was placed at 300 mm from a MAR345 image plate detector and an X-ray wavelength of 0.694018 Å was used. The data were integrated using Fit2D program (Dr. A. Hammersley, ESRF) and a calibration measurement of a NIST LaB6 standard sample.…”

“…Recent developments regarding MOF have advanced very quickly because of its intriguing structure and potential applications, which include use in gas storage, purification, catalysis, sensing, adsorption and drug delivery. [2][3][4][5][6][7] Composites have combined the performances of MOF and other materials. A hybrid composite of multiwalled carbon nanotubes and MOF-5 was synthesized and the hydrostability and hydrogen storage capacity was enhanced.…”
