Composição química e atividade acaricida dos óleos essenciais de Peperomia pellucida Kunth. contra Tetranychus urticaeResumo: Os óleos essenciais obtidos por hidrodestilação das folhas e caules de Peperomia pellucida coletadas de um fragmento de Mata Atlântica no estado da Bahia, Brasil, foram analisados utilizando cromatografia gasosa (CG) e cromatografia gasosa acoplada à espectrometria de massas (CG-EM). Independentemente da parte da planta, sesquiterpenos foram a classe de compostos mais abundantes nos óleos, seguido de fenilpropanoides. Os principais constituintes do óleo das folhas foram γ-gurjuneno (11,34%±0,01), 1,10-di-epi-cubenol (11,27%±0,02), (E)-cariofileno (8,71%±0,02) e dilapiol (8,50%±0,03), enquanto que carotol (9,77%±0,01), dilapiol (9,18%±0,01), trans-β-guaieno (9,05%±0,02) e (E)-cariofileno (8,53%±0,02) foram os principais constituintes do óleo do caule. A atividade dos óleos contra Tetranychus urticae foi avaliada por 24 h. O óleo do caule (CL 50 = 1 x 10 -2 µL/L de ar) foi quatro vezes mais tóxico do que o óleo de folha (CL 50 = 4 x 10 -2 µL/L de ar), mas 2,5 vezes menos ativo do que o eugenol, o qual foi utilizado como o controle positivo. Este estudo revelou diferentes perfis químicos para os óleos da folha e caule e reporta pela primeira vez a ação acaricida do óleo essencial de P. pellucida contra uma importante praga agrícola. AbstractEssential oils obtained through hydrodistillation of the leaves and stems of Peperomia pellucida collected from a fragment of the Atlantic Forest in the state of Bahia, Brazil, were analyzed using gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Independently of the part of the plant, sesquiterpenes were the most abundant class of compounds in the oils, followed by phe ylpropa oids. The ai o stitue ts i the leaf oil were γ-gurjunene (11.34%±0.01), 1,10-di-epicubenol (11.27%±0.02), (E)-caryophyllene (8.71%±0.02) and dillapiole (8.50%±0.03). The major constituents of the stem oil were carotol (9.77%±0.01), dillapiole (9.18%±0.01), trans-β-guaiene (9.05%±0.02) and (E)-caryophyllene (8.53%±0.02). The activity of the oils against Tetranychus urticae was evaluated for 24 h. The stem oil (LC 50 = 1 x 10 -2 µL/L of air) was fourfold more toxic than the leaf oil (LC 50 = 4 x 10 -2 µL/L of air), but 2.5-fold less active than eugenol, which was used as the positive control. This study revealed different chemical profiles for the leaf and stem oils and is the first report of the acaricidal activity of P. pellucida essential oil against an important agricultural pest.

The genus Piper belongs to family piperaceae which has over 700 species distributed in both hemispheres. The piperaceae family is a source of many biologically active photochemical with tremendous potential for medicinal uses. A wide range of secondary metabolites mainly alkaloids, amides and terpenes are reported from the various species of piper which are of great economical and medicinal importance. This paper reports the isolation of various sesqueterpenes such as δ-elemene, δ-cadinene, α-copane, caryophyllene, α-caryophyllene, β-bisabolene, and methyl benzene from the oil of the hot petroleum ether extract of Piper nigrum seeds. These phytochemicals are analysed by GC-MS spectral analysis.

The essential oil from the leaves of Peperomia borbonensis from Réunion Island was obtained by hydrodistillation and characterized using GC-FID, GC/MS and NMR. The main components were myristicin (39.5%) and elemicin (26.6%). The essential oil (EO) of Peperomia borbonensis and its major compounds (myristicin and elemicin), pure or in a mixture, were evaluated for their insecticidal activity against Bactrocera cucurbitae (Diptera: Tephritidae) using a filter paper impregnated bioassay. The concentrations necessary to kill 50% (LC ) and 90% (LC ) of the flies in three hours were determined. The LC value was 0.23 ± 0.009 mg/cm and the LC value was 0.34 ± 0.015 mg/cm for the EO. The median lethal time (LT ) was determined to compare the toxicity of EO and the major constituents. The EO was the most potent insecticide (LT = 98 ± 2 min), followed by the mixture of myristicin and elemicin (1.4:1) (LT = 127 ± 2 min) indicating that the efficiency of the EO is potentiated by minor compounds and emphasizing one of the major assets of EOs against pure molecules.
