Compositional dependence of optical and vibrational properties of strontium barium niobate (SrxBa1–xNb2O6)

Abstract: The index of refraction, the optical band edge and the Raman scattering of strontium barium niobate, Sr x Ba 1-x Nb 2 O 6 with 0 38 0 77 x . < < . have been studied. The ordinary refractive index does not depend on x, while the extra-ordinary one increases with increasing x. The band edge is almost unaffected by the Baor Sr-content and shows a weak band bowing. Both the index of refraction and the band edge may be used for an optical determination of the composition of the crystal. Raman spectra show the typic… Show more

“…The 605 cm -1 subpeak belongs to an A 1 (TO) mode and the corresponding bulk value was 596 cm -1 . 23 The 290 cm -1 subpeak was not clearly observed in our bulk sample. It was assigned as the B 2 mode in published SBN Raman data [23][24][25][26] and the corresponding bulk value was around 304 cm -1 (SBN crystal).…”

It was assigned as the B 2 mode in published SBN Raman data [23][24][25][26] and the corresponding bulk value was around 304 cm -1 (SBN crystal). 24 It is noticed that when the film thickness increased above 100 nm, the positions of these two modes in our thin film samples approached to those of the bulk values.…”

“…To calculate this angle, we have assumed the fundamental beam at wavelength 1064 nm, and the SHG at 532 nm. We then take the corresponding refractive index of the Sr 0.61 Ba 0.39 Nb 2 O 6 crystal: n 1064nm = 2.22 and n 532nm = 2.32 [30]. From Eq.…”
