Comprehensive Analysis on the Performance and Material of Automobile Brake Discs

Abstract: This article reviews the current status of automotive brake disc research and the prospects for future research. At present, the research of brake disc performance mainly includes thermal conductivity, thermal fatigue resistance, wear resistance, and brake noise. It is found that a new alloy composite, heat treatment process, ceramic composite, new structure, and new materials are emerging. At the same time, it was found that ceramic and resin were used as the matrix, fiber materials were used as reinforcement… Show more

“…The fundamental application of this work is disc brake, in which thermal failure, frictional issue, wear affect are predominantly reduce the lifetime of a rotating disc brake thus in this current study the same aforesaid factors are considered as major problems. To tackle these non-linear factors the [6] article supported a lot, in this article, the author mentioned the failure issues in the rotating disc also suggested implementing carbon fiber-based ceramic composite material in the rotating component, which provided more confident to continue this current investigation. The article [7] conducted the pin on disc-based experimental investigations on glass fiber composites with graphite filler, in which the following outcomes were understood: glass fibers are user friendly with graphite filler, naturally glass fiber-based composites have the resistance in-build power, and graphite is a perfect filler to enhance the composite's wear property.…”

“…These composites are also used as a partial or complete replacement for conventional materials in the production of monoqocue type frames [77]. In brake systems, metal matrix composites are usually used for the production of brake drums and discs, both in cars [78][79][80] and in other types of vehicles, such as motorcycles [81]. In the friction linings of brake pads, mostly aluminum-based materials reinforced with, for example, silicon carbides, are used [82].…”

“…In brake system components, frequency inspection is utilized by manufacturers as a means of quality control to encounter defectiveness of a system, such as a brake squeal [4]. Moreover, a variety of experiments have been carried out to study the braking performance of brake disc surfaces [5][6][7][8][9], but no publications make reference to quality control of that brake system parts. However, before being assembled into a brake system, brake disc production quality control is required to avoid brake system issue.…”
