Comprehensive chemical analysis of triterpenoids and polysaccharides in the medicinal mushroom Antrodia cinnamomea

Abstract: Antrodia cinnamomea is a precious medicinal mushroom used in adjuvant treatments of cancer.Triterpenoids (25R/S-ergostane epimers and D 7,9 /D 8 -lanostanes) and polysaccharides are its major bioactive constituents. Quality control of this mushroom is difficult, due to a lack of effective analytical methods. In this study, a series of methods were established to analyze A. cinnamomea. The ergostaneand lanostane-type triterpenoids were extracted by 50% and 100% methanol, respectively, and were then analyzed by … Show more

“…We also tested 34 (the putative precursor of antrodin A) as the prenyl acceptor, and the conversion rate was around 2% (Figure S4). While antrodins had been detected in the mycelia and fruiting bodies of A. camphorata, none of them were detected in this study, probably due to different cultivation conditions. These limited our exploration of the catalytic function of AcaPT in vivo .…”

“…Concerning the fragmentation patterns, their HRMS/MS spectra were dominated by typical neutral loss of 18, 28, 44 and 62 which could be assigned to H 2 O, CO, CO 2 and H 2 O + CO 2 , respectively. It is worthwhile to note that these typical losses have already been observed for triterpenoids fragmentation in negative mode using either ESI or Atmospheric Pressure Photo Ionisation (APPI) sources [ 35 , 36 ].…”

“…One of the most effective ways to produce A. cinnamomea fruit bodies is to carry out submerged fermentation with the fungus. In total, 70 compounds have been isolated from A. cinnamomea , including polysaccharides, diterpenes, triterpenoids, fatty acids, amino acids, and steroids [ 19 ]. A. cinnamomea has been shown to have hepatoprotective activity (as a result of its inhibition of free radical generation) in a rat model of liver injury [ 20 ].…”
