Comprehensive Patient-Specific Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy Quality Assurance Comparing Mobius3D/FX to Conventional Methods of Evaluation

Abstract: To determine the appropriateness of implementing Mobius3D/FX (Varian Medical Systems, Inc., Palo Alto, CA, USA) as not only a pretreatment secondary check but as an alternative to measurement-based patientspecific intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) quality assurance (QA). MethodsMobius3D/FX was commissioned and stock beam models were tweaked so that an independent recalculated 3D dose distribution can be obtained. Then, 50 patient-specific treatment plans for various indications were delivered across… Show more

“…4,5 Log files also have been used in volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) patient-specific QA. 6,7 Recently there has been significant interest in applying machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI) to radiotherapy. 8,9 Some of these include dose calculation, 10,11 automatic contouring of structures, 12 automated planning, 13 and prediction of output factors for proton uniform scanning.…”

“…M3D was validated for a variety of radiation therapy techniques, IMRT/VMAT/TomoTherapy, demonstrating to be a safely pre-treatment calculation-based verification system. [19][20][21][22][23][24] However, there is a lack of investigation regarding the appropriateness of M3D as patient-specific pre-treatment verification system for stereotactic brain radiation treatment with a high dose in a single fraction.…”

“…However, in recent years, comparative studies for an overall range of clinically relevant plans, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT), have been performed. 20 22 , 29 , 30 Moreover, detailed characteristics of Mobius3D/FX, such as the dosimetric leaf gap (DLG) correction factor, have been explored for optimal performance. 20 22 , 30 , 31 In summary, in-depth evaluations of dosimetric accuracy of Mobius3D/FX for IMRT and VMAT plans have been actively performed.…”
