Comprehensive Review of the Properties and Modifications of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites

Abstract: Carbon fiber-reinforced polymers are considered a promising composite for many industrial applications including in the automation, renewable energy, and aerospace industries. They exhibit exceptional properties such as a high strength-to-weight ratio and high wear resistance and stiffness, which give them an advantage over other conventional materials such as metals. Various polymers can be used as matrices such as thermosetting, thermoplastic, and elastomers polymers. This comprehensive review focuses on car… Show more

“…As a result, no recycling system for CFRP wastes has been built around the globe thus far.” However, several uses have been developed since that time to properly utilize CFRP waste. Generally, recycling CFRP is divided into two stages: first, reclamation of carbon fibers from CFRP waste, then production of rCF reinforced polymer (rCFRP) as demonstrated in Figure 3 [ 41 , 42 ].…”

“…Carbon fiber composite materials and glass fiber composite materials are the most widely used to restrain concrete columns, beams and plates and repair damaged concrete structures, which have achieved remarkable results [ 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ]. However, these synthetic fibers also have some disadvantages, such as high price and non-recyclability, which make them neither economic nor conducive to environmental protection and sustainable development [ 11 , 12 ]. In addition, the energy consumed in the manufacturing process of synthetic fibers is not renewable, and a certain amount of carbon dioxide is released, which also causes environmental problems [ 13 ].…”

“…Recently, carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic polymer composites (CFRTPs) have attracted significant attention for application as structural materials in automobiles [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. A CFRTP generally exhibits superior toughness, productivity, and recyclability; however, it demonstrates inferior specific rigidity and strength relative to carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic composites (CFRPs), which are usually employed in large transport.…”
