Comprehensive review on inter‐turn fault indexes in permanent magnet motors

Abstract: Inter-turn fault (ITF) of stator winding is a very sensitive and critical fault in permanent magnet motors. If this fault is not diagnosed on-time, it can quickly expand and generate serious damage and even full damage to the motor. So, realisation of this fault, its impact on the motors and finally its diagnosis methods are essential and has high priorityfor users of the motors. This study presents the trend of the negative impacts of the fault on the performance of the machine. Available indexes for this fau… Show more

“…The basic principle of MCSA is that the frequency domain features of the stator current will change (e.g., 3rd harmonic was observed) in the event of an inter-turn short. The classical MCSA methods include Fourier-transform-based methods [18,19], and wavelet-transform-based methods [20,21].…”

“…A great deal of research proposes how to classify the damage types, such as stator breakdowns, and have employed various approaches [6][7][8][9][10][11][12], including magnetic pendulous oscillation, motor current signature analysis, instantaneous active and reactive power signature analyses, and total harmonic voltage. Studies on rotor breakdowns [13][14][15][16] have used mathematical morphology and wavelet analysis.…”

“…The common faults of PMSM are winding, demagnetisation, and mechanical faults. The inter-turn fault is a common fault of the winding fault and makes up ∼21% of all the faults [3][4][5]. The influence of inter-turn fault on the PMSM is generally small at the early stage, thereby allowing the PMSM to still keep working.…”
