Computer modeling of visual impairment caused by intraocular lens misalignment

Abstract: These findings verify the results calculated by paraxial vergence equations. A ray-tracing program simulated the optic imagery for various kinds of IOL misalignment and IOL optic properties.

“…11 The combination of IOL decentration and tilt induces an unpredictable refractive error that depends on the relationship between the geometric axes of the decentration and tilt. 12 Furthermore, IOL tilt influences the level of ocular coma-like aberrations. 13 The current small case series describes 3 cases of subluxated cataract in which the use of the capsule anchor provided a successful outcome.…”

“…As previously stated, IOL decentration or tilting would have induced a significant deterioration of the visual acuity and quality. 11,12 The aim of our small case series was to provide evidence of the clinical usefulness of capsule anchors in cases of subluxated cataract. The potential benefit of these devices over others, such as CTRs, is being evaluated and should be clarified in future studies comparing the results obtained with the capsule anchor and those obtained with devices such as CTRs.…”

“…, 22nd Z Z 6 À4 , 26th Z Z 6 4 terms), spherical aberration (12th Z Z 4 0 and 24th Z Z 6 0 terms), and secondary astigmatism (11th Z Z 4 À2 , 13th Z Z 4 2 , 23rd Z Z 6 À2 , 25th Z Z 6 2 terms) were calculated. Statistical comparisons were performed using the Student t test (independent samples).…”

“…The dominating vertical coma C7 can also be seen in the wavefront map in Figure 3. Probably the lens changed its position after surgery, as described by different investigators [31][32][33] ; thus, the correlation between corneal and total aberrations was altered. Bueeler et al 34 reported that the required accuracy for lateral centration of wavefront corrections in normal subjects should be as precise as 0.2 mm to avoid significant optical aberrations at large pupil sizes.…”
