Conceptual Design Method and Creativity in Textile Design

Abstract: In textile sector intuitive non-engineering methods and skill based designer oriented design processes are regarded as appropriate for textile manufacturing. However, design presented by the use of Prescriptive design models concludes to be more direct and rapid when compared to the Descriptive design models. For these reasons, systematic design techniques prove to be more scientific and easy to manipulate when compared to classical intuitive design techniques. Since textile, as an industrial product in essenc… Show more

“…Principally the design process is a problem-solving procedure, and the designer, just like the laboratory scientist, will be most effective if the problem is approached systematically. Effective fine artists commonly follow similar patterns in developing their creative ideas, though they may be less conscious of the process they are following (Gürcüm, 2017;Rauth et al 2010;Warr & O'Neill, 2005). Initially, the designer is inclined to experiment in a rather arbitrary manner, gathering ideas and skills through reading or experimentation.…”

“…The sudden insight that affects a designer as critical during problem solving is imagination, which involves the production of ideas that were not previously available as well as the generation of various ways of viewing events. [1] Fabric is one of humanity's most basic needs, not only for clothing but also for aesthetic and utilitarian reasons. There are several different ways to make cloth, the most common of which are weaving and knitting.…”
