Conductance quantization as a new selective sensing mechanism in dendritic point contacts

Abstract: The diversity of techniques employed in modern sensing nanodevices is crucial for large-scale use of sensors in multifunctional technological cycles. We propose a new concept of selective detection of gases and liquids based on the formation of an original quantum system and registration of its energy states in dynamic mode using dendrite point contacts synthesized electrochemically in the probed medium. The in situ synthesis of nanosized dendrite point contacts is shaped by the cyclic switchover effect which … Show more

“…The operation of point-contact sensors is in line with the principles of Yanson point-contact spectroscopy [ 3 , 6 ]. Point-contact sensors exhibit quantum properties during the detection of various objects and enable new detection mechanisms [ 4 , 10 ]. The quantum properties of the point-contact sensors enable the measurement of the breath spectral profiles, which contain comprehensive information about this complex gas medium [ 11 ].…”

“…In sensor studies, the quantum properties of Yanson point contacts solve the problems that could not be solved when analogues were used to measure the variation in electrical conductance. This can be exemplified by the new quantum mechanism of selective detection in gaseous and liquid media [ 10 ] and by the possibility of real-time detection of carcinogenic strains of Helicobacter pylori [ 11 ].…”

“…Due to quantum nature of their electric properties Yanson point contacts are able to record fine variations of superficial states of the point contact conductivity channel which are caused with adsorption of an external agent. The registration procedure is performed with the highest possible resolution of one conductivity quantum which is equal to addition of one atom to the point-contact channel [28,29]. This makes it possible to record response signals of a spectral type by point-contact sensors [14,19].…”

“…Селективний квантовий сенсор на основі ефекту електрохімічної точково-контактної комутації має широкі перспективи і значні переваги в порівнянні з існуючими на сьогоднішній день пристроями для диференціального аналізу рідких і газоподібних середовищ [1,2]. Принцип дії квантового сенсора базується на тому, що під час циклічної точково-контактної комутації [3,4]…”
