Condylomata acuminata with Pigmented Papular Lesions

Abstract: 5 cases of condylomata acuminata with pigmented papular lesions were examined. By light microscopy, the pigmented papules showed benign basaloid cell proliferation and papillomatosis with only a few vacuolizations of the keratinocytes. Although mitotic figures increased in number, cellular atypia and disorderly arrangement were rarely observed. Electron microscopy revealed only benign epidermal cell proliferation. From these findings, the pigmented papules may be regarded as an initial stage or a forme fruste … Show more

“…The pigmented wart, first identified by Egawa et al, 1 has clinical features of gray to black pigmentation and histologic features of a specific intracytoplasmic homogeneous inclusion body that distinguishes it from other viral warts. 2,3 Dermoscopy is a noninvasive technique for the evaluation of pigmented skin lesions. 1 To our knowledge, only 1 case of pigmented wart in a white patient has been reported 2 ; the rest of the reported cases all involved native Japanese patients.…”

“…'9 As we were only able to study one sexual partner of one of our patients, we could draw no appreciable conclusions. Table III shows that the clinical and histological differential diagnosis of bowenoid papulosis includes Bowen's disease, condylomata acuminata, and condylomata acuminata treated with podophyllin resin.5 22 Clinically, bowenoid papulosis appears at an earlier age than Bowen's disease and presents as multiple small papule that have a tendency to coalesce into verrucous plaques;20 these may recede spontaneously. Our patients presented with these clinical characteristics and one case of spontaneous regression.…”

“…Bowenoid papulosis (BP) is also related to high-risk HPV types, including type 16. The existence of pigmented papules of CA has been rarely described (3). Typical cases of CA and BP can be easily diagnosed based on the clinical features alone.…”
