“…Head mounted displays (HMDs) are being explored as an alternative means of displaying relevant information which has been traditionally been done on a tablet type display mounted on the user's chest. Numerous studies have investigated the application of HMDs in aviation (Jenkins & Gallimore, 2008;Morphew, Shively, & Casey, 2004;Rolland & Hua, 2005), military (Ferrin, 1999;Livingston et al, 2002), driving (He et al, 2015;Sawyer, Finomore, Calvo, & Hancock, 2014), firefighting (Wilson et al, 2005), and medical (Rolland & Fuchs, 2000;Sanderson et al, 2008) applications. Results indicate that HMDs may enhance situation awareness (see Endsley, 2011), improve performance (He et al, 2015;Tippey et al, 2014), and provide more intuitive and natural interactions with a synthetic environment (Santos et al, 2009) compared to more traditional displays especially for dismounted operators who must wear all of their gear.…”
