“…Regarding the use of Personal Protective Equipment (SPE), a study in Brazil revealed that only 53% of drivers working in emergency care units consider it important to adhere to procedure gloves when attending to victims. 11 An integrative review carried out with the purpose of identifying instruments available in worldwide literature related to gauging health professionals' knowledge about SP 12 verified that no identified instrument addressed all the topics established by the CDC 3 and there was no disclosure of the construct validation in the studies, however, some studies performed internal consistency and stability verification by performing tests and retests. In view of the above and the lack of a Brazilian instrument regarding SP knowledge, an integrative search was carried out in the Medline, Lilacs, ISIWeb of Knowledge and Scopus databases between 1996 and 2011 and a knowledge questionnaire was discovered regarding the SP "Questionnaires for Knowledge with Standard Precautions".…”

“…Adherence to SP is one of the strategies used to protect workers from exposure to pathogens and to protect the patient (29) . The factors with a positive impact on adherence to SP include training (17,30) ; perception of the organizational safety environment (31) ; care provided to a smaller number of patients (32) ; organization and cleaning of the workplace (33) ; size of the establishments, since larger sites usually count on more active infection control committees (34) ; perception of obstacles faced by workers to adhere to SP (31) ; risk behaviors of workers (35) and perceived self-efficacy of the use of safe practices (16) . A study on multicausality of occupational accidents with exposure to biological material in a teaching hospital found that these accidents were not only caused due to peculiarities of the work, but also to work conditions and the process of hospital work.…”

“…(4)(5) These instruments must be valid, consistent and reliable to guarantee the validity of results, and serve as support for both the planning of interventions and comparisons between cultures. (6) A literature review (7) on instruments that evaluate adherence by healthcare professionals to SP found that the majority do not address all of the topics recommended by the CDC.…”

“…Of the studies conducted in Brazil, some instruments were designed to measure adherence to (2,5) and knowledge of (5) the SP; however, none presented their psychometric properties, a fact that interferes with the validity of the results.…”
