Connection Discovery Using Big Data of User-Shared Images in Social Media

Abstract: Billions of user-shared images are generated by individuals in many social networks today, and this particular form of user data is widely accessible to others due to the nature of online social sharing. When user social graphs are only accessible to exclusive parties, these user-shared images are proved to be an easier and effective alternative to discover user connections. This work investigated over 360 000 user shared images from two social networks, Skyrock and 163 Weibo, in which 3 million follower/follo… Show more

“…In addition to railway trip data, an increasing amount of recorded information potentially provides information on human interactions, e.g., GPS log data, web server activity, and purchase logs. A few studies have attempted to estimate relationships among users based on social networks [7,16] or image-sharing services [4]. The method proposed in the present study, which detects friends without accidentally including people in the same activity group, is applicable to other datasets if these data were recorded over a sufficiently long period.…”

“…Many researchers have discussed the estimation of hidden interpersonal relationships based on online communities [7,16] and image sharing services [4]. Moreover, some researchers have investigated the connection between interpersonal relationships and activities on the internet [21].…”

“…Future work on this topic will be to find better mappings of the algorithm on a GPU on one side, and to apply the algorithm in applications that need real time processing. On the other hand, we plan to extend our framework as to deal with emerging trends of big data management and analytics (e.g., [43,44,45,46,47,48,49,50]).…”

“…First, the high performance-oriented data mining is one research direction in multimedia big data. One research was explored to prove that social images shared on cloud-based multimedia had a high level of similarities when users are socially connected [19], [20]. This research was an attempt of using multimedia to further expand the outcomes of big sized data mining.…”
