ÂâåäåíèåÊîíîäîíòîâûé ðîä Protognathodus Ziegler èçâåñòåí ñ êîíöà 60-õ ãîäîâ ïðîøëîãî ñòîëåòèÿ ñ ìîìåíòà åãî îïèñàíèÿ Â. Öèãëåðîì [27]. Îäíàêî ïåðâûé âèäkockeliáûë îïèñàí ðàíüøå Ã. Áèøîôôîì (1957) [17] â ñîñòàâå ðîäà Gnathodus. Ïåðâîå îáîáùåíèå äàííûõ ïî ðîäó îïóáëèêîâàíî â «Êàòàëîãå êîíîäîíòîâ», âûïóùåííîì ïîä ðåäàêöèåé Â. Öèãëåðà (1973) [28], ãäå ïðèâåäåíà ðåèëëþñòðàöèÿ ãîëîòèïîâ, âèäîâîå îïèñàíèå è âåðîÿòíûå ôèëå-òè÷åñêèå ñâÿçè ÷åòûðåõ «ðàííèõ» ïðåäñòàâèòåëåé ýòîãî ðîäà.  1980 ãîäó îïèñàíû åùå äâà âèäà, òàê íàçûâàåìûõ ïîçäíèõ ïðåäñòàâèòåëåé ðîäà [1980]. Òàêèì îáðàçîì, â íàñòîÿùåå âðåìÿ ïîä ýòèì ðîäîâûì íàçâàíèåì îáúåäèíåíî 6 âèäîâ, êîòîðûå, â ñâîþ î÷åðåäü, óñëîâíî äåëÿòñÿ íà «ðàííèõ» è «ïîçäíèõ» [18]. Ðàííèå ïðåäñòàâèòåëè ðîäà (Protognathodus meischneri Ziegler, Pr. collinsoni Ziegler, Pr. kockeli (Bischoff), Pr. kuehni Ziegler et Leuteritz) ðàñïðîñòðàíåíû îò ñàìûõ âåðõîâ ôàìåíñêîãî ÿðóñà âåðõíåãî äåâîíà (îñíîâàíèå êîíîäîíòîâîé çîíû praesulcata) äî íèaeíåé ÷àñòè âåðõíåòóðíåéñêîãî ïîäúÿðóñà íèaeíåãî êàðáîíà (êîíîäîíòîâàÿ çîíà quadruplicata) [18]. Èçúÿåëü (þã ãðÿäû ×åðíûøåâà) ñ ìíîãî÷èñëåííûìè íàõîäêàìè ïðåäñòàâèòåëåé êîíîäîíòîâîãî ðîäà Protognathodus Ziegler. Êîíîäîíòû ðîäà Protognathodus íà ñåâåðå Óðàëà ðàñïðîñòðàíåíû â ãëóáîêîâîäíûõ îòëîaeåíèÿõ âíåøíåãî ñêëîíà êàðáîíàòíîé ïëàòôîðìû èëè âíóòðåííåãî áîðòà âïàäèí íà øåëüôå àíàëîãè÷íî äðóãèì èçâåñòíûì ìåñòîíàõîaeäåíèÿì. Íàèáîëüøèå êîíöåíòðàöèè ýëåìåíòîâ îòìå÷àþòñÿ â îáëîìî÷íûõ èçâåñòíÿêàõ, èìåþùèõ òóðáèäèòíóþ ïðèðîäó, ãäå êîíîäîíòû ñêîíöåíòðèðîâàíû ãèäðîäèíàìè÷åñêè. Ââèäó óçêîé ôàöèàëüíîé ïðè-óðî÷åííîñòè è íåìíîãî÷èñëåííîñòè ïðîòîãíàòîäèä â Ñåâåðîóðàëüñêîì ðåãèîíå (çà èñêëþ÷åíèåì ïîñìåðòíîãî ãèäðî-äèíàìè÷åñêîãî «îáîãàùåíèÿ») èñïîëüçîâàíèå Protognathodus kockeli â êà÷åñòâå ðåãèîíàëüíîãî ìàðêåðà ãðàíèöû ìåaeäó äåâîíñêîé è êàìåííîóãîëüíîé ñèñòåìàìè íåöåëåñîîáðàçíî.  êà÷åñòâå íàèáîëåå ïîäõîäÿùåãî ðåãèîíàëüíîãî èíòåðôàöèàëüíîãî àáèîòè÷åñêîãî ìàðêåðà ìîãóò âûñòóïàòü õîðîøî ðàñïîçíàâàåìûå â ðàçðåçàõ ðåãèîíà òðàíñãðåññèÿ (ïðèîðèòåòíåå) èëè ðåãðåññèÿ íà óðîâíå Õàíãåíáåðãñêîãî ãëîáàëüíîãî ãåîëîãè÷åñêîãî ñîáûòèÿ. Early representatives of Protognathodus in the north of the Urals are common for deep-water sediments of the outer slope of the carbonate platform or the inner side of the depressions on the shelf similarly to other known localities.
