This paper aims at understanding the mutual relationship between the taboo of faith and a house space in the “licit architecture” in 70 Rai, Khlong Toei, a slum improvement project area in Bangkok, Thailand. In another paper, we defined a house in this area as “licit architecture,” which is built by architectural practices of people, such as deviating from official laws, customary laws, and customs within an acceptable level. This concept works not only for understanding the actual practices of the people in this area but also provides a deeper understanding of how they can survive in the serious living and spatial conditions in the slum. In this paper, we focus on various taboos relating to Buddhism and the spiritual faith and practices seen in house spaces with such licit architectures. Through a detailed description of these points, we show how a taboo relationship influences the layout, orientation, elevation, and removal of a house space. We point out that the “licit architecture” concept can be expanded broadly if we consider the architectural practices of the people, particularly various taboos of the removal, layout, orientation, and elevation, and how the people face these taboos.

The purpose of this Join Community Service (PKM) with Faculty of Economy and Business Trisakti University and Faculty OF Economy and Business Esa Unggul University activity is to increase understanding of the Islamic economy and Islamic financial and banking institutions for school-aged children in environment of Masjid Luar Batang, Jakarta Indonesia. The method used is a survey and observation method with descriptive analysis from previous literature studies. The survey and observation methods were carried out by conducting direct outreach socialisation by presenting speakers and extension workers to school age. The material provided by giving an explanation of Islamic economics and the mechanism of Islamic financial institutions and banking. The next activity is evaluating the extension activities with interactions during the counseling session, such as questions and answers where questions from the instructor can be answered properly. Understanding of Islamic economics in school-age children in environment of Masjid Luar Batang has increased, but support from industry and the government is expected to be able to produce human resources that are reliable and can compete at the international level.

Functions or activities that occur on a historic site did by a community will affect the formation of its physical environment. This research observes the ritual and market activities did by the community in the historic site of KampungLuarBatang, North Jakarta, and sees its influence on the formation of its physical environment. The purpose of this research is to explore the meaning of ritual and market in historic site of KampungLuarBatang, by relating the function or activity of ritual and market with the formation of its physical environment. The research method used is descriptive qualitative interpretative method. The observed function or activity is a pilgrimage ritual activity in the historic mosque building and market activity around the mosque. The form of physical environment observed is the spaces used as places of pilgrimage and market. The conclusion of this research is the function or activity of pilgrimage ritual and market did by the community of KampungLuarBatang, North Jakarta, has a meaning of survival strategy in the modern city environment of Jakarta.
