In this paper, an energy detection-based transmission scheme is proposed to consider a massive single-input multipleoutput (SIMO) system with imperfect channel status information (CSI), where a pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) constellation is used at the transmitter and energy detection is used at the receiver. First, the symbol error probability (SEP) of the system is obtained by theoretical derivation, then the PAM constellation is optimized based on the minimum SEP criterion. The conditions that a suboptimal PAM constellation should satisfy are obtained by relaxing the upper bound of the SEP, and a simple iterative algorithm is proposed to complete the constellation design accordingly. The simulation results show that the PAM constellation designed can effectively improve the reliability and reduce the SEP.
